6 ways to refresh your home after Christmas

6 ways to refresh your home after Christmas

Christmas is such a lovely time, decorating your home, twinkling lights, lots of excitment for the Christmas period ahead.

I dont know about you but I am finding that people are putting their decorations up ealier and earlier, but they are also taking them down earlier,  either between Christmas & New Year or like me on New Years day. I used to leave mine up until the last minute but now I like to start the new year off with a clear home.

This is a lot different to when I was growing up my mum used to leave the decorations up until the 12th night.

I find its really comforting to move into the new year with a fresh start and a clear home. The downside is the home can look really bare and I always miss the twinkly lights.

So what can you do to help your home feel more cosy and welcoming after the Christmas clearout.

1. Bring on the Deep Clean

Once you have removed the evidence that christmas existed its really good to have a deep clean. Years ago the big deep clean was reserved for Spring but I find its really good to get rid of all the glitter that gets into places you really dont expect and dont get me started on the little bits of green that fall off the christmas trees. I usually still find one popping up around Easter. Anyone else?

So reach for the duster and hoover and wipe away christmas, clean those windows so they let in the maximum amount of light in and we are good to add the cosy touches

2. Buy yourself a new house plant.

House plants can be a great way to add foiliage back into your home after Christmas. These can be real or faux. If you are not keen on house plants then fill your home with some faux flowers, they can add a blast of colour or be a calming natural tones.

3. Mirrors brighten your space

Using mirrors has long been an interior design trick used in show homes to create an illusion of space and make you believe that your room is larger than it actually is.

It also helps to add natural light into the area by placing the mirror oppose a window, this will harness the daylight and create a brighter vibe.

Just remember to keep the mirror clean as dust will affect the amount of light it will reflect.

4. Freshen up the space with soft furnishings

A room can be totally changed with a few key pieces and the cost of this can depend on your budget. But by adding a set of new cushions, possibly a new rug and or a vase you can create a warmer, cozier atmosphere.

Warmer colours .of oranges, yellow and deep olive green can help your room look and feel a lot cosier as well as beige, taupe, creams & warm greys.

Top Tip, if you are on a budget you can just add new cushion pads to your existing cushion covers to make them plumper.  Choose a cushion pad 1 or 2 sizes bigger than the actual cover to ensure maximum fullness of the cushion & it will also last longer as it will take longer to flatten.

5. Add your favourite scent to your room

Purchase your favourite candle or new oil for your diffuser. The smell of a room can be so relaxing and add an ambience to your home after Christmas.

6. Refresh your front porch area

My final tip for you is to look at your front porch area. This can work whatever outside space you have, if you have a large front porch area or your front door leads straight onto a pavement.

My advice is to give your front door a good clean and brush the floor area, this will immediate look fresher and welcoming.

Think about adding a winter wreath to your door as lots of people have a christmas wreath, maybe think about a fresh door mat that gives a welcoming vibe.

I love to have a lantern & a few gonks at my door with maybe a planter with flowers or a plant looks great but this will depend on the space you have.
